| Xplanet |
| Xplanet was inspired by Xearth, which renders an image of the earth into the X root window. Azimuthal, Mercator, Mollweide, orthographic, or rectangular projections can be shown as well as a window with a globe the user can rotate interactively using OpenGL or Mesa. The other planets and some satellites may also be displayed. |

| This is a nice clone of famous (under Unix) xearth utility. Xplanet will show a globe (or other planet) as your wallpaper, allowing you to see it from any location, with current weather maps, earthquake info, satellite location, etc. Configuration is a kind of tricky (and you have a lot of options to control!), but after playing 20-30 minutes with the program it's easy to understand them all. In the package you will find a map of the Earth, other maps you can download by following links from the program's homepage. |
