| Overview * This is a utility to (re)set the password of any user that has a valid (local) account on your NT system, by modifying the crypted password in the registrys SAM file.
* You do not need to know the old password to set a new one.
* It works offline, that is, you have to shutdown your computer and boot off a floppydisk. The bootdisk includes stuff to access NTFS partitions and scripts to glue the whole thing together.
* Note: It will now also work with SYSKEY, including the option to turn it off! Why? NT stores it's user information including crypted versions of the passwords in a file called 'sam', usually found in \winnt\system32\config. This file is a part of the registry, in a binary format previously undocumented, and not easily accessible. But thanks to a German(?) named B.D, I've now made a program that understands the registry. As far as I know, Microsoft provides no way of changing the password if you cannot log in as someone with appropriate privileges, except restoring the registry files from the rescuefloppy. * You don't forget passwords?
* You never get boxes to admin when someone quits suddenly?
* Your vendor delivers a preconfigured system to you, but never have "freak" accidents and lose the password they've set on it?
* If so, what are you doing reading this?? Go read propaganda from your favourite software vendor instead. |

| Great thing which will be useful for (nearly) every admin. If you are not very experienced in Linux or system stuff, than I highly recommend you to visit program homepage and read docs and faqs... |

For those of us computer challenged folks, the instructions leave something to be desired; don't know HOW to follow the instructions because they talk about stuff I know nothing of. Could be quite a bit more basic for some of us.

This software is really great. It saved me from reinstalling an NT 4.0 PDC in the past, and I also used to recover the password of a win2k machine. Many thanks to all you guys for your excellent work.

this was a lifesaver, but i needed it to work within two hours on a pc without floppy or cd installed. what to do? PXE-linux it.
1. Use WinRAR with ISO association turned on, download the CD image, and open it.
2. Extract initrd.gz, vmlinuz, boot.msg to your TFTP root directory (to get TFTP/DHCP working right, see http://pxes.sourceforge.net/howtos/ms_only_environment/index.html).
3. Make isolinux.cfg your default or MAC-address specific entry in pxelinux.cfg directory.
4. Boot to LAN. Reset password. Enjoy.

I used this program for many times in my office network(i'm taking care of a net) and every time works excellent! But if you want to succeed reseting passwd, you have to follow the exact instr on the screen!

Hello, I hope that you will excuse my English, to summarize I use Windows XP and I want to launch the program. When I insert Cd and I whom I open my PC all is in English a little like the dos mode, until there is no problem I folow the directives but at the time or I must write a word which contains one й an e with an acute accent, nothing to however make my French keyboard and I tested in all the ways but in English it there not of accent and I little really not to write the word, therefore I cannot go further, then the question how of making an acute accent with the program???? that functions well with a user without accent, but it is necessary that I remove that of owner and it is because of this famous й that I do not arrive there, I imagine that with an English PC that would be possible. If you have a solution it welcome. Think's to help me.
